Countless people have themed their systems off CoplandOS, the operating system of the NAVI line of computers in Serial Experiments Lain; I feel, however, that all of these fall short in the way of authenticity. Here's my attempt at getting as close as possible to recreating CoplandOS.
Step one is to find what we're even trying to remake. We have a whole two decent images of CoplandOS:
While they may be distorted, we can still get a very good idea of what does what:
With this as a guide, heres my recreation in Debian Linux using KDE:
A few notes:
- To switch icons, these are per-app launchers as opposed to the icons-only task manager.
- The global menu isn't hidden, as I can't recreate that bit.
- I couldn't show the hostname, so I simply used a widget that outputs a plaintext file.
